Moving To Mexico: What I Did In The First Week

I landed in Merida, Mexico and hit the ground running. Here’s a breakdown of my first week:

Yes, I Still Have To Work

I started my day with a work meeting with my colleagues to talk about our newsletter. We actually ended up spending the entire time venting about the week. And often that space is necessary to release emotional weight in order to try and focus on logistical tasks. Although I was starting to feel distant from the organization, I always appreciate the amazing talent of the people I work with and how they offer multiple ways of thinking about something. Unfortunately, because of a series of unfortunate events, I no longer feel connected here.

I decided this week that I just don’t have the energy to pretend like I am working all day when really there’s nothing going on right now. I have no projects, I am not engaged in doing the thing I love which is coaching educators, and when we are in meetings I spend a lot of time asking a lot of questions so I can make sure I understand what the heck we’re even talking about.

Every Coach Needs A Coach

After that meeting I met with my CMF and of course I always enjoy our conversations. I appreciate their insights but also I just see them as a person with great vibes and is a genuinely kind person. I can rock with people like that! I appreciate how they push my thinking and help me grow more into the ways that align with how I want to show up in the world. I am even feeling shifts in how I show up in the world based on our work together, and I am wondering how this will all play out now that I’ve made a big life change and moved to another country.

Neighborhoods in Merida

But enough about work. Outside of that, life is great! I love it here so far. Today, Diego came to pick me up and show me around the neighborhoods of Merida but honestly everything looked the same to me. Merida is flat all around which is something that’s very different from Houston. He did send me a list of neighborhoods to consider based on what I care most about which right now is price. I still don’t know if I want to get a place to stay for the year or keep doing airbnbs. I like the idea of perhaps moving around every 3 months.

A New Workout Routine

I went to my first Bangin’ Body workout class this evening. It started at 6:45PM and it was a Boxing HIIT class. I am sooooo out of shape. I met Ximena, J, Marie, and the teacher was Jose. Everyone was so very nice! Oh and before that I joined Josh’s “Who All Over There” podcast. I am so very proud of him. The conversation was great and the topic was on point. It was nice to see him doing something he enjoys and that also brings him closer to his church family. It’s nice to know he’s not alone in his new city. It’s also refreshing to hear real life topics being discussed at church. I’ve been blessed to be a member of a church that makes the bible come alive, but I can’t say that for every church.

The Fruits of My Labor

Today, was a really nice day and it makes me want to just lean into this feeling for as long as I can. I am so thankful and feeling very blessed. I want to remember that I worked hard to get where I am today. This was not an overnight, spontaneous adventure. I’ve been working hard since I was 15 years old so that I could live the way I chose. And now I feel like I’m finally seeing how all the things that have happened before have come together for me to be able to be sitting here on my laptop in Merida, Mexico typing out what will one day be words I share with you.

To God be the glory.
